My White Knight

Do you believe in a long-distance relationship? How about love at first sight or perhaps internet lovers? I don’t but one simple “hello” changed me.

This is my story.

I am a Filipino gay guy who begins to have a boyfriend and explore the world of love and passion when I was 16. I’m 27 now and been in a couple of relationships which I cannot count through my fingers anymore. LOL. I’m not that good looking and I admit it. I just have that sex appeal or perhaps talks too sweet or in Tagalog, “mambobola“. Too much maybe but even I don’t know how I end up having too many relationships in 10 years. Anyways, when I was in high school, I started chatting with random people using the Internet. The famous social networking site back then was as well as Yahoo messenger is one of my most used application to be exact. I did try using MIRC but it seems to be a lot difficult for me, haha! I get to know other people, make friends, flirt and of course create a mutual relationship with some of the people I chatted with on the Internet. I was sexually attracted to people living in a different culture. Foreigners or “KANO” are those that I chat with all the time. It was fun and exciting. They are more aggressive, straightforward and sweet. Boastful to the fact that they want to show their manhood on camera, play with it and brag about how big their johnsons are. But it never lasted and then I realized that people you meet online are those you do not want to take seriously.

But one day, it changes me… πŸ™‚

One day, someone says hello… πŸ™‚

And it all started…

Google+ post

I work in a BPO company and there was a time that I am able to access prohibited sites, such as Google+. Since I am an android user, I already have an account in Google and started posting stuff on my wall. I also uploaded pictures so people can see who they are chatting with and maybe to see who is interested. LOL.

Then one brave man responded to one of my so random posts. A response that changed my beliefs, started a journey and open a new world of happiness.

I met Mr. Michael Ellis on June 26, 2013. He is the former Chief Organizational Officer of a known company in the US and lives in Chicago Illinois with his dad. Since I am at work, I was not able to see what he looks like. Seriously. We talked about a lot of stuff on our first day and checked the post he has on his wall. I found out that he just got separated from his wife, his mom died and lost his job but it did not stop me from making friends with him.

He is really fun to chat with and got a lot of stories to tell considering the fact that we just met. Super polite and very outgoing. He told me he just got out of the marketplace for groceries when he found out that I added him to my circles. Really cute. I already gave him my trust just like how he gave me his trust. It was one of the happiest days ever! Super “KULIT”. πŸ™‚

The next day, I decided to go steady. I don’t know why but there’s a part of me that like him so much. Honestly, it was a 50/50 decision that I made but it’s really worth the try. I want to go steady with him so it’s easy for me to get to know him better. We became a couple on the 27th of June which I think is the 26th in his country. What’s more amazing is the power of the internet allows us to talk on the phone via Skype. I can still remember the first time I hear his voice like it was yesterday. He was walking back and forth, nervous while I act relaxed. But deep inside me, I am very nervous as well. We were on the phone for hours talking about life and never got tired of each other. All that happened is still fresh from my memory and it will never fade away. (I think I’m about to cry now).

We did get to know each other as days went by. All the do’s and the don’ts were covered. My past, his past, hobbies, likes, dislikes and everything. We talked about technology, especially the battle between Apple and Samsung. We also checked out some crazy videos in YouTube and 9gag. We both plan for our future and how we can maintain the excitement every day.

It’s not always fun of course. We do fight sometimes and most of the time, I’m the one who’s shouting and crying. Haha. There’s this time when his dad got hospitalized and my numbers are failing. It was the most difficult time for both of us that I need space so we can both focus on our own battles. That’s also the time when our relationship was on the edge of falling apart. Thank God that we are able to hang on to each other and never gave up. He needs space to find himself, help his dad and figure out what he really wants to do with his life. I did tell him that he needs to love himself first before he loves someone more than anything. The silence did payoff and that’s when things got so real, he bought a ticket to get to the Philippines. It was all so quick and super amazing. I never thought that fairy tales do come true… πŸ™‚

It’s not long till we saw each other in person. He made it. He got the ticket in September 2013 and flew to the Philippines on January 27th. What’s way more amazing is that it’s our 7th month together. πŸ™‚ The sad part is that he got injured along the way. He got into a car accident hours before he got onto the plane. Luckily, there’s no need to amputate his arms. πŸ™‚

We waited for hours at the NAIA Airport, terminal 3. He was already at the airport around 10:45 pm but the line were so long and the facility is really unstable. Total chaos. We waited in agony for an hour until finally, a 6’2″ American guy with a long sleeve polo shirt came out (like coming out of the closet thing. lol). I didn’t saw him but my mom and brothers did. πŸ™‚ I was relaxed and super happy when I finally saw him. But he said he was really nervous which I find really cute. πŸ˜€

I surprise him with these gifts (a pillowcase, a mug, flowers, and a pendant). His eyes widen and gave me a hug. It was the most memorable night of my entire life. I did pinch myself a couple of times to make sure I’m not dreaming. πŸ™‚

He and my family got along pretty easily. He wanted to help out as much as he can but I don’t let him because of his injured arm. It took us days before we got to a doctor to fix it. Why? Because he insists it will be healed and it might just be lumpy because of the force the car did to it. Sadly, he got broken bones on his left hand that’s why it’s numb and aching. But everything went okay the moment he got the cast, which he hates so much! πŸ˜€

We got tons of plans before he gets to the Philippines and only a few were successful. We went to some famous places in Manila like Intramuros and the Rizal Park. You can click here to check out all the pictures we had together while he was here. I also let him meet all my friends and relatives. We never get to go to a beach when he was here. It’s because of his injured hands which will make it difficult for him to move around. Because of that, we decided to cancel some of our trips but of course, use our other options like walking around and having a good time together. He loves walking around the neighborhood of Santa Rosa, Laguna and taking pictures of the area. He said, “this is my vacation”. πŸ™‚

After a few days, he did propose and asked to marry me. πŸ™‚ blush* I did say YES of course. It’s very overwhelming and emotional. He also asks my parents to marry me! (ang ganda ko lang!) He really wants to stay here in the Philippines. He loves the culture and everyone is really accepting. He even asked why does gay marriage here is not recognized.

Another exciting news came to us when a magazine asked us for an interview. The name of the magazine is Outrage Magazine. You can check the info here. We posted a picture with the hashtag #LoveisLovePH and caught the editor’s attention. He sent us an email and interviewed us at the same time. It was posted last April 21, 2014.

As of now, we are still keeping the momentum going and keeping the excitement present all the time. It’s really hard to be in a long distance relationship. There are times that you’d feel lonely and depressed because you’re longing for a warm embrace from your partner. How do we deal with loneliness? We keep ourselves updated about what’s going on. Skyping and always trying to communicate as much as possible.

Keep your faith and never lose hope. A call or text can keep someone occupied for the rest of the day. πŸ™‚ And that’s what we always do. Just always believing that the word “SOON” is just a day away. Praying to God to always guide us both and always make sure to talk about any misunderstanding. πŸ™‚

Today, he’s in Chicago and promised me that he’ll be flying back to the Philippines by December. On July 9, 2014, A week after our 1 year anniversary, he sent me a bouquet of flowers. So sweet! πŸ™‚ I’ll make sure to keep you guys updated. Who knows when the bells will ring?

PS: This was a post from my own blogging site. 2014.
